Individuals looking to make their way to the United States should note that the state has now mandated JW Visa Health Insurance. It is absolutely necessary for exchange visitors, post graduate research students, scholars, au-pairs, trainees and all other J1 Visa insurance holders to have a valid J1 visa health insurance. This is a requirement which must be fulfilled in order to keep the visa valid.
There are a number of criteria that J1 Visa plans must meet. This includes the minimum requirement for medical coverage, evacuation and repatriation benefits. All travelers making their way to the US on a J1 visa must purchase a J1 Visa Health Insurance in accordance with the regulations.
J1 exchange visitors must also carry J1 visa insurance for their J2 dependants. The term of the insurance should be for the entire duration of your J program. In case you fail to purchase the appropriate J1 visa health insurance the government will force the sponsor to terminate the exchange program. Following this the sponsor will have to report the termination to the United States Department of State.
It is particularly dangerous to be in the United States without proper health insurance. Unlike other countries the government does not bear the expense of health care for people visiting the country. Such people are responsible for their own health care expenses. Seeking medical care in the United States is very expensive and a single day treatment and hospitalization can cost you more than a thousand dollars. In some cases hospitals and doctors may actually refuse to provide medical treatment in absence of adequate J1 visa health insurance.
